Episode 45: Xanithia Moonsnow
Monday Apr 06, 2020
Monday Apr 06, 2020
Sometimes the answer to a question leaves the world feeling different than it did before you heard it. Events of the past can suddenly twist into new shapes and things can make a new, horrifying kind of sense. 2.4.1. Drinks, Bitsy, and Xanithia emerged from beneath the frozen wastes of the Greyfrost seat burdened with more than they had bargained for. Needing to find their way back to Jarmaulk to recenter themselves before picking their path forward, they decided to make a stop at the home of Xanithia. She had some questions of her own that she wanted answers to. Answers she hoped her parents could provide. Hopefully these answers would prove easier to bare.

Episode 0.3: The Old Gods’ Legacy
Monday Mar 23, 2020
Monday Mar 23, 2020
Continuing on our usual tradition, to commemorate the break between story arcs it is time for another Episode Zero! As our heroes have made their way though the treacherous land of Cairith they have not gone unnoticed, having drawn the attention of the Blind Goddess Selanna, and the Great Wolf Kentha. Not much escapes their Sight.
This episode summaries the events of The Old Gods' Legacy arc from the perspective of Selanna and Kentha as they wait for the end of the cycle with bated breath.
For new listeners, or old ones wanting a quick summary, this might be a good point to hop in before we launch the next chapter, The End of the Beginning. With the other Episode Zeroes it should allow for new listeners to hop in if they don't want to wade through earlier chapters right away, or want to avoid having to suffer through our older audio set ups (though they should, the effort is well worth it!)
If you haven't already check out the announcement that went up today on our website: https://throughthebalcony.podbean.com

New Chapter! New Annoucements!
Monday Mar 23, 2020
Monday Mar 23, 2020
Some announcements from us for the (near) beginning of 2020:
"Hello everyone! It has been about a year since I’ve done an update like this, but there’s a lot going on so I wanted to let everyone know what we’ve been up to. First off, before we get to anything, I want to thank you for being a part of what we do. Sharing these stories is something I’ve really come to enjoy, so thank you for being a part of it.
So, into the announcements! Or news. Or whatever this is.
First, along with this announcement we just released Episode Zero! Again! For those just tuning in that’s great news! We release an episode after each chapter of our story that attempts to summarize the events that took place. So all put together they gives you the ability to catch up with the story if you’re new, or remind yourself of where we came from. And, while I absolutely recommend listening to the whole story, it does give you the chance to skip past the episodes where our audio quality is a bit lacking.
I choose to look at it as celebrating how far we’ve come! And even if you’re all caught up, why not give it a listen to hear it told from a new perspective.
Next, and kind of hand in hand with Episode Zero, is that we will be starting our new chapter on April Sixth, two weeks from now. I’ve decided to call it the End of the Beginning… for reasons. So keep an eye out for that!
Now, something that I have no schedule for is something I will be working on in the months to come. Earlier I mentioned the audio quality of some of our older episodes. There are some elements of that are inherent to the equipment that can’t really be fixed, but we’ve improved our process over the years (God, is it really years?). So I am going to go back and try to remaster some of the older episodes and bring them up at least a bit closer to the quality we’ve reached today. So keep an eye out for that!
Now, onto a slightly more serious matter: with things going on in the world the way they are right now we can’t be sure if our ability to play together is going to be impacted. As much as we love playing, we also want to do our part to keep ourselves and the others in our lives healthy. So, we’ll try to keep you updated as much as possible, but if there is a delay in our release schedule just know that we’ll be back as soon as we can. We may play with a couple other thing to try and still bring you something, but one way or the other we’ll be back. Or, God willing, we won’t go anywhere at all!
So, thank you all for sticking with us this long! There might be some other things coming down the pipe, so stay tuned! And with that, I think that’s everything! Here’s to another year of this madness! Thanks again for listening."

Episode 42: Champion and Chosen
Sunday Jan 19, 2020
Sunday Jan 19, 2020
It has been a long path to get 2.4.1. Drinks to where they are. It started with their meeting with Pelannia in the ruins of the city of Freygarde, where Selanna charged Kizzy to prove herself by aiding the blind Champion. Then across countless miles of snow choked roads, and ice clogged straits, to the city of Farglenn, the Eastwatch mines, and beneath. All of that to arrive here, on the precipice of getting the answers they came to Cairith to find: where is the temple of the old gods, and what does the end of the cycle mean...

Sunday Dec 29, 2019
Sunday Dec 29, 2019
Having stuck up an unlikely alliance thanks to the efforts of their resident cleric, the adventurers from N'drin find themselves heading deeper into the Eastwatch mines. As the Solstice strikes, the moonstone door at the heart of the mines swings open, allowing the group to enter; the first group in fifteen hundred years to be able to do so. The answers to what Sutven wants here, and what happened that was dire enough to require the mine to be sealed, are about to be answered.

Sunday Dec 08, 2019
Sunday Dec 08, 2019
Now that the Ebonfort has been retaken, there is no time to waste for 2.4.1. Drinks. The solstice is rapidly approaching, but their clever use of magic, and pushing themselves to their limit, is the only hope they have for arriving in time to thwart whatever plans the necromancer has. The Eastwatch mines loom before them, and it is time to make a plan to move forward until one of the group takes matters into their own hands.

Episode 39: A Necromantic Interlude
Sunday Nov 17, 2019
Sunday Nov 17, 2019
Having followed the Champion of Selanna across nearly half of the continent of Cairith, the Adventurers from N'drin have finally arrived at the city of Farglenn just in time to get mixed up in the threat posed by a Necromancer that had managed to cripple the defenses of the city. Teaming up with a local captain and her twin brother, the only path froward seems to be to attempt to retake the fortress east of town and then try and stop the necromancer before the Winter Solstice, two days away.

Monday Oct 28, 2019
Monday Oct 28, 2019
If Cairith has anything going for it, it's truth in advertising: the adventurers from N'drin have found nothing but cold and ghosts since arriving. As they made their way across the Straits of Khada on their way to Farglenn the group had to deal with a ghost that had possess both Thyme and Kizzy in an attempt to seek revenge. In the aftermath of that, the party must regather themselves and prepare themselves for what lies ahead as the end of the year, true beginning of Winter, and the total eclipse of the Broken Moon, Xhilasha, draws near.

The Bastion of Souls was a place that few dared to venture near, let alone into. Only the followers of Selanna seemed willing to do so. However, it seemed that 2.4.1. Drinks would have to do the same if they were to make good on their deal with High Priestess Adonna. The city was a ghost along the coastline, hollow and empty and cloaked in a cold glow from the mist that eternally shrouded them. Soon the group found themselves on those haunted streets, haunted by spectres of the past and something else among the broken stones.

Sunday Apr 28, 2019
Sunday Apr 28, 2019
Hello, I have some announcements for you to cover the last month and more and talk about what's coming down the road. For those of you who are listening it should be quick, for those that would prefer to read I have that for you too!"First and foremost thank you all for tuning in to this little announcement. I just wanted to take a quick chance to explain what all has been going on behind the scenes because there’s more than I feel can be properly covered in my usual introductory blurbs. Don’t get too excited. It’s nothing risqué or dramatic. No inter-party conflict or anything like that. Over the past couple months I’ve alluded a couple of times to some events coming up in the future. Well, one of those events was that Andrea and I were moving to a new house. At the outset I had a solid plan. A workable plan. One that had a minimum of impact on our schedule and the podcast as a whole. Of course, we all live in the real world and while I may have planned for a perfect transition from one home to another, where after a few days I’d be ready to face the world… that isn’t quite how it ultimately played out. Don’t take that the wrong way, though. Everything went well, we stayed with family for a while there, but we’re moved into our new house and settling in nicely. It just through me for a loop and unfortunately Through the Balcony had to take a backseat for a little bit.So that’s part one.Part two is what comes next, and is ultimately behind part one in the first place. My lovely wife and I are expecting another child in the near future meaning that one, we’ll need to come up with a character for her to go along with Jenkins, and two, we’re going to be in no place to play D&D for a little bit. Now, while the last hiatus caught me off guard and what I’d thought might be a week or two delay expanded well beyond that, this is something I have a plan for.Back when all of this started we had four sessions we recorded at the tail end of the first arc in Jarmaulk and the Akken dessert. The first wasn’t ever even supposed to be a podcast episode, it was literally done because Dan and Tim were playing remotely and with me knowing Dan was going to be late I thought I’d just record it for him so he could hear what he missed. What followed were three sessions where we actually started seriously contemplating what is now a reality where I had even less idea what I was doing than I do now. They are rough and raw, but are in my opinion still great sessions. It’s, sadly, not the whole arc but it should be a fun listen regardless and definitely touches on a few things that are still mentioned to this day. So we’ll be releasing those for a couple of months while we adjust to a new little one under our new roof. We’ll probably go to a three week release after that for a while and after that, only God knows. What I do know is that I am loving being able to tell and share this story. So however that plays out, that’s what I want to do. So, that’s what’s been going on in our neck of the woods. Lots going on, but al of it pretty good if a little bit crazy. We will resume episodes on Monday and release them as we make them up until the break. Thank you all for tuning in, and thank you for listening. Now that we’re all on the same page I will leave you to enjoy your weekend."
